An AOD conversion requires more than simply replacing the transmission. Depending on the vehicle, the swap may require the correct torque converter, AOD-compatible flexplate, transmission crossmember and mount, TV cable and linkage, shift linkage, slip yoke and possible driveshaft changes. Because classic Ford applications vary by year, engine and existing transmission, fitment should always be confirmed before ordering.

The TV (throttle valve) cable is critical to AOD operation because its adjustment affects transmission line pressure and shift operation. An incorrectly adjusted TV cable can cause poor shifting and potentially damage the transmission. Proper TV cable geometry and pressure adjustment should be verified during installation before the vehicle is driven.

Possibly. The AOD is physically different from transmissions such as the C4, and many classic Ford conversions require a different crossmember or transmission-mount location. Driveshaft length and slip-yoke compatibility must also be checked for the specific vehicle. Some applications have readily available conversion components, while others may require driveshaft or crossmember modification.

Not automatically. The correct flexplate depends on the engine and application, including the required tooth count and engine balance. The torque converter must also be compatible with the AOD and the engine/flexplate combination.
